About Survive the Storms

Preparing Today for Life’s Unexpected Emergencies

I’ve never considered myself a doomsday prepper. I’m not building an underground bunker, stockpiling years of food, or expecting civilization to collapse tomorrow.

But I do believe in being prepared.

Living in North Dakota, I’ve experienced enough severe winter weather to appreciate the importance of thinking ahead. Whether it’s keeping emergency supplies in my vehicle, having extra necessities at home, or knowing alternate routes when roads become dangerous, I’ve always believed a little preparation makes sense.

And emergencies aren’t limited to blizzards and tornadoes.

A snow-buried North Dakota country road at dusk under a heavy gray sky, with a lone sedan on the shoulder and its trunk open to reveal an emergency kit: a red blanket, a folded shovel, a flashlight and a jug of water. Wind-blown snow drifts across the flat prairie in cold blue light.

Power outages, water disruptions, civil unrest, unexpected evacuations, and other situations can interrupt our lives with little warning.

That’s what Survive the Storms is about.

This website is dedicated to helping everyday people become better prepared for life’s unexpected emergencies, particularly those of us living in cities, towns, and apartments.

I’ll share practical preparedness information, explore emergency planning strategies, examine useful equipment, and occasionally discuss what I’m doing to become better prepared myself.

A tidy apartment hall closet with shelves holding a hand-crank radio, a lit lantern, labeled water jugs, canned goods, a first-aid kit and a small backpack. Warm lamp light falls across the supplies, with a darkened window behind showing an evening power outage across the city.

I don’t claim to have all the answers. I’m learning, too.

My goal is simple: to help you think ahead, make sensible preparations, and feel more confident about handling whatever storms life may bring.

Because surviving the storm often begins long before the storm arrives.
